Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:

Sexuality in many Asian countries is a paradox. On the surface, the condition appears improved but underneath many women are suffering: condition appears improved but underneath many women are suffering: men are still overpowering women, discrimination toward gays is severe, sexual harassment and abuse are taboo to talk about and ignored in many cases, the sex business is substantial and teen involvement is growing, and the message about sexuality in the media and publications is uncivilized. As Asian females, we have been both witness and victim to many of these problematic issues. Once we see the condition of our countries from a distance (such as from the U.S.), we cannot help but try to spea out–using art forms as our strongest tool and our voice. Our works are distinctive and original in style but have a strong sense of unity and expressive emotion.
