Beyond the Ring
2007

Contributing Artists
(Installation by) Jessica Tam
Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:
Jesica tam uses traditional techniques of narrative and portrait painting to impose a theatrical element to professional wrestling. Oil paintings composed of expressive brush strokes bring a focus to the barbarity in the dramatization of a bizarre form of sports and leisure. Each painting has a mixture of popular culture and physical violence that forces the co-existence of comedy and aggression. The work of Jessica Tam will also be part of the School of the Art Institute’s Fall Undergraduate Exhibition opening November 17, 2007 at Gallery 2.
