Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:
Throughout the history of painting, the landscape has been a recurrent subject. Though a place might be beautiful by itself, it is the sky — through its lighting and cloud formations — that sets the temperature. Big Sky pays homage to the sky and all of its proponents, honoring the purpose of a landscape painting: to be momentarily taken away to a different place and time, and to create the nostalgia of being in the field, on that road, and so on.
