Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:
“In the name of safety, the medical system has regimented bodies based on their sexuality, shape, and able-condition to “”protect”” them from inadequacy. In the name of safety, corporations commit ecological extractivism to “”protect”” the development of commercial trade. In the name of safety, governments have suppressed political protests to “”protect”” their social order.
How are artists questioning claims of harm in society? How do we deal with the fear of danger in complex situations and opposing views? How do we re-frame the perceived threat that comes from the plurality of forms of existence as the necessary conditions for safety?”

Program statement from the SUGs/SITE archive:
“Curated by the SITE team, this exhibition asks how artist are opposing the hegemonic claims that plural forms of existence are harmful. Fernando Saldivia, Maya Ortiz Saucedo, and Marco Guagnelli Gonzalez expand on the conversation with this show presenting two performances and a screening that touch on migration, adoption, and ecological extracitivism.”
