Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:

“Edit Mode” is a unique state in the cirtual realm that allows for the modification of existing data. In this exhibition, the title symbolizes a switch that offers a new perspective on our physical world.

Artist Liang-Yu Huang applies the logic of virtual construction to engage with the physical world, intending to open up new possibilities for how viewers percieve objects. Unlike reproducing a physical object, which relies on a firm structure to maintain its shape and function, virtual construction allows for “glitches” or structural slaws in unseen areas. It also allows for the creation of siulation from scratch. The distinct settings and rules within the virtual sphere enable Huang to aproach and develop his sculptures from an alternative perspective.

From fruits to billboards to water tanks, the selection of objects collectively reflects Huang’s daily life. He observes these everyday objects, replicates them using three-dimensional modelling software, and then reproduces them in the physical world. This process de-daily-fies these objects, stripping them of their mundane cntext. Through this lens of virtual construction, Huang offers a more personal interpretation ofthe cityscape, while raising a pivotal question about the tensions between the virtual and physical worlds.
