Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:

Excavate the Image is a show about the discovery and utilization of mark-making through the process of painting. Lauren Sullivan (BFA, 2019), Kat Gu (BFA, 2018) and Angela Lee (BFA,2019) are undergraduate students who create abstractions by using formality as an intuitive guide. Through excavating their imagery, each begins to dig into what is presented, finding both internal and external forces that drive their works.

Mark and Move! provides students and faculty a hands-on lab to explore unconventional mark-making and experimental studio methods to expand the possibilities of traditional painting and drawing. Paper, drawing supplies, toys, makeshift tools, and DIY machines to draw with will be provided. Mark and Move! is intended as an open space to experiment freely for all participants. What new ways of making might emerge through this
collaborative mark-making experiment? Mark and Move! will be a two-hour drawing session, hosted in the Leroy Neiman center lobby on May 9th, from 4:00-6:00 PM. Hosted by Lauren Sullivan (BFA 2019), Kat Gu (BFA 2018), Angela Lee (BFA 2019) and Andy Hall (Associate Professor, Contemporary Practices).
This program is open to everybody!
