Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:

Moving away from traditional materials of art making, Jenni Sorkin and J. Dana Sperry investigate aspects of the subtle movements in the world around us, with fiber, salt, metal, and water. Jenni Sorkin reconstructs evidence of the body’s natural transformation in her delicately woven fiber “bruises”. J. Dana Sperry recreates the beauty and temporality of nature in his installation of eroding cast salt bowls that oxidize into patterns of rich color on sheets of metal. The viewer witnesses the process of creation and destruction in Sperry’s installation, ever-changing and new one day to the next, while Sorkin’s bruises are permanently revealed, remaining visible and uncovered during the length of the show.
