Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:
In his first solo exhibition, figure sculptor, Danny Bracamontes, presents his material investigation of two-percent milk. Utilizing milk’s materiality to communicate a coming of age story, he examines that nostalgic tendency to preserve the past by confronting the repressed traumas of his upbringing in the small town Buda, Texas. His work embodies moments of self-discovery surrounding queerness, religion, addiction, and parental figures. Brancamontes depicts his Mexican American identity by creating monumental objects that peer into intimate moments of acceptance and challenge the social stigmas assocciated with adolescence.
