Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:
Clayton Philips’ first solo exhibition, Made In His Image, implements sculptures and textiles to reproduce objects belonging and related to his late father. These replications elicit both the garage in which Phillips’ father devotedly rebuilt a 1967 Porsche and the church which was the site of his own baptism, parent’s marriage, and father’s funeral. Collectively the mythologies which contribute to the construction of sacred spaces and masculinities in American society.
