Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:

In Parallel Journeys, Guanyu Xu (MFA 2019) interweaves three projects, made over the last four years, charting his solo journey in the U.S. as well as his journeys with his mother in both the U.S. and Europe. Using photography and video to connect his personal narratives with transitional politics, his work examines the intersectional experiences of race, sexuality, and citizenship in the U.S. and conservative familial relationships in China.
