Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:

“play is therapy for reality. it’s about pushing aside all the stresses and responsibilities of daily life. it’s about kicking back, relaxing, disconnecting with the adult world, and just enjoying yourself.

more importantly, play is a catalyst for creativity. play stimulates the brain and encourages experimentation, risk taking, discovery, and learning. through play art is created, ideas are formed, and wonderful things happen.

“”recess”” is a full scale activity book installation. it will turn the gallery into a walk-in playground where people of all ages can go and play together. it is an environment that encourages creativity and art-making.

my hope is that people will enter the gallery, interact with the exhibit, and end up creating at. the various modes of play will inspire various forms of art. one person’s creative expression will inspire another’s. the space will be constantly changing throughout the entire time the exhibit is running.”
