Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:
Taking form as a sculptural and video installation, this collaborative project by Bell and Misurell draws on a shared interest in a reexamination of urban space. Referencing both indigenous American architectural forms and current dialogues on sustainable vernacular architecture, the shelter functions as a short term re-use of abandoned urban space. Pathways traditionally marked for the storage and passing through of infrastructure, such as highway underpasses and abandoned lots, are repurposed as inhabitable spaces for anonymous urban living.
