Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the SUGS/SITE Archives:

Jeremiah Jones’ We Are Going To Be Poor Forever, is a multichannel video projection which features folk art-inspired handmade animal dolls walking through the night, looking for a place to sleep. While walking they meet a cast of characters who tell stories while reflecting on the relationships and ideas that have shaped their world. These characters rarely infer meaning on their experience; instead, they suggest questions without providing us answers. In this video work, Jones embraces innocence and the spirit of living without compromise, as well as a discussion of patriarchy, racism, and economic injustice.
