Exhibition Statement as Preserved in the INCUBATOR Archives:

“In Our Blood” is a solo exhibition by the artist PRISMA, who recreates artworks by her family members of the past and present. The artist uses the act of recreation as a method
to both learn from and honor her ancestors while also critiquing the gender dynamics in their family. Using woven structures, quilting techniques, and direct dye applications,
PRISMA disrupts the borders of painting and textile to analyze the gender hierarchy of fine
art and craft within her own familial context. With the artist’s familial archive serving as a medium and reference, “In Our Blood” is a journey of self-actualization that breaks the
boundaries of craft and fine art, painting and textile, and male and female — all in pursuit of
finding one’s place among the archives.
