Michael and Cari Sacks Give a $1 Million Gift to Establish Need-Based Scholarships for CPS Students

January 19, 2016

SAIC received a gift of $1 million from Michael and Cari Sacks to establish the Sacks Family Fund. The endowed fund will provide need-based scholarships to SAIC graduate and undergraduate students who are Chicago Public Schools (CPS) graduates. Michael is a member of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Board of Trustees, and Cari is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Modern and Contemporary Art History degree at SAIC. The gift will create more opportunities for students to attend SAIC, supporting both CPS graduates and SAIC’s efforts to strengthen ties with the local community. These community-based initiatives include the development of the School’s College Arts Access Program, a partnership with the Foundation for Homan Square in North Lawndale, and the establishment of other need-based scholarships, including the Walter and Shirley Massey Chicago Fund.
