Gallery X

“Student Union Galleries is truly privledged to host renowned artist Artemis Star during the Black Coffee exhibition in Gallery X. Star’s work, an intense marriage of painting and performance, has been displayed thoughout the world at such prestigious institutions as the Sri Lanka Institute of Art, the Louvre, Museum of Modern Art, the Tokyo Center for the Arts, Art Puppet Institute, the Guggenheim, Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Marionette Museum of Art (Moscow) , and countless others. Now Artemis Star brings his string-breaking work to Chicago. He began his career with Jim Henson, and occasionally collaborates with Oscar the Grouch. Some relate him to the Gutai action painters, but he cannot be classified under historical confines. Star will create and donate to the School an original masterpiece on Wednesday during the Black Coffee opening. Unfortunately, Star will not be available for individual critiques, but he will give a lecture towards the end of the exhibition.”
